The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) conducted an Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) programme, entitled “Capacity Building for Agricultural Cooperatives” from 24 May to 4 June. The two-week course was attended by 18 high-ranking government officials and members of agricultural cooperatives from 9 countries – Cameroon, Columbia, Ecuador, Ghana, Iraq, Mozambique, Pakistan, Senegal and Timor Leste.
In his opening remarks, General Manager of the Global Cooperation Office, Mr. Kyoung-won Lee said: "The NACF is a multifunctional cooperative that provides not only agri-business support such as distributions, extension services, etc., but also financial services for its members and the public, making it a unique model not easily found in any other country.” “NACF hopes to become a good model for developing countries and expects participants to adapt what they have learned during this course to their own countries”.
The participants had the opportunity to listen to lectures on the development and operations of Korean agricultural cooperatives, as well as visit actual agricultural sites and facilities. They also had the opportunity to present country reports that covered the status of agricultural cooperatives in their countries, and also draft action plans that will provide a political framework for promoting cooperatives in ways that correspond to the circumstances in their own country.
